Students completed their weekly spelling work books
When they completed their weekly spelling work books, students moved on to brainstorming about a holiday tradition they do around this time.
Math
In math we have been learning the mental math strategy of moving forward and back ten.
Today we applied it to double digit addition but not only by 10 we extended this to 20, 30, 40. Students learned to look at the equation and break down the second number to add for example:
48+18 --------First step break down the second number 10+8
= 48+10+8 -------move the 48 forward by ten
=58+8 ---------- take end result and add to the last number
=66
