Day 89


Reminders/We started by writing our agenda note


Registration- After checking with administration there seems to be a wait list of new grade 2 students for next year. This means that if your package and fees are not submitted by February 12, 2018 at 4:00 PM there might not be spots available to you.

Speeches - students at this point should have completed their speech and now are on to memorizing their speech and adding actions/emphasis 

Aftercare payments due today

March Break Camp registration forms were sent home back in October. We have had many students sign up since then and especially the last few days. If you are interested in registering your chid for our amazing March Break camp, please send in the completed registration form, along with the $20 one-time non-refundable deposit in order to secure your child's spot (this could be paid in cash or through fresh books). This year there are two options to chose from the first being lunch and two snacks provided or the second being send your own packed lunch and a discounted camp rate! We also have daily rates available. Please contact Ms. Smith bsmith@stjudesacademy.com for more details.

Jump Rope for Heart - St. Jude’s Academy is please to be holding a Heart and Stroke Foundation Jump Rope for Heart event on Tuesday, February 20th, 2018. All money raised will support the Heart and Stroke Foundation in their mission to promote children’s health and fund vital heart and stroke research.

Next we had French with Mlle. Jessica, you can check out her blog at

Daily Five - Students will use this class time to work on their speeches, students will have time to conference with me. - Students are asked to please bring their speech back and forth each day in order for me to monitor and correct. Students at this point should have completed their speech and now are on to memorizing their speech and adding actions/expression
- students practiced today saying their speech to partners. At this time speeches should be completed. This is to help them gain confidence for the day of and help to memorize.

Math

Today students continued their data management unit. Students worked in their books on learning greater than 5, less than 5, and sum of 5 by playing a dice game. Each student took a turn rolling the dice and recording if the number was greater, less than or a sum of 5. Students kept track in a tally chart and then graphed their collected data. 







Inquiry into Language

students continued with  speeches by saying them in front of the class without looking at their speech. 





Inquiry into Inventions 
Today students were given 3 pictures of inventions and they had to write why they thought the inventions were important.

Math Reflection 
Students worked on reading and interpreting data in tally chart format. Students then took the data and placed it on their own bar graph.

Today students continued their data management unit. Students worked in partners on learning greater than and less than by playing a dice game. Each student took a turn rolling and recording their number. Students would have to decide if their number was greater or less than their partner's. 




Inquiry into Language

students were told to imagine life without Thomas Edison's invention of the light bulb! Students then wrote a journal response to this.


Inquiry into Inventions 
Today students learned that Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. They were given pictures of telephones from the 1800s on to 2015. Each picture was labeled with the year it came out/was used. Students were asked to create a telephone timeline in their table groups.

Math
Today students continued their data management unit. Students created a question to survey the class on favourite foods. Students were to choose 3 foods to put in their question to survey the class. Students are asked to ask the entire question to each person they survey. Students surveyed 10 people today, they collected their data on in a table using tally marks. Next students took their data and placed it onto a graph, creating a title, labeling each food and creating a bar graph. 
Inquiry into Language
students completed their spelling workbook working on the meaning and use of each spelling word.

Inquiry into Inventions 
today students were given pictures of inventions, I read them a clue (including inventors name, when it was invented, and why) and they had to match the clue to each picture.
