Today students continued to work on recognizing names, edges, vertices and faces of 3D prisms and Pyramids.

We also talked about different formulas we can use

Ex. 

A pentagonal pyramid 

A pentagon has 5 edges and vertices 

Pyramid Edges 

5+5=10

Pyramid Vertices 

5+1=6

Today students presented their speeches for feedback. Please keep in mind our in class competition is on Monday.

Inquiry into Simple Machines

Today students continued to learn about the pulley!

We watched a video

We learned that simple machines make work easier. A pulley helps us lift heavy things (the load). We learned that a pulley needs a string/rope and a wheel with a groove to work.
We also thought of examples of a pulley - cranes, flag poles, curtains, elevators
We finished creating our own pulleys in our table groups we will finish tomorrow:

students were given the shapes manipulatives to help them count.

We also talked about tricks for pyramids and prisms today we learned that

Pyramid Vertices - look at the bottom shape how many vertices does it have then add one!
Prism vertices - look at the side shapes (both the same) how many vertices does it have? Double it!

Tomorrow we will learn some tricks for edges!

Our reading buddies came and helped us learn!
