Day 59

Inquiry into Language 

Today students listened to a story about making soup. Then they wrote an explanation of how to make soup! We are practicing explanation writing for our second term Ontario writing assessment.





















Math 

Students worked on double digit addition with some re-grouping. We looked at addition through base ten blocks to get the idea of when we needed to trade in (when you reach ten ones) and how it changes the number in the tens column.

The French orange duo tangs were sent home today, students need to complete their "interview" sheet (they know the instructions and have practiced in class) and bring back their duo tangs by Friday Nov. 30th.

Inquiry into Cultures 
Students got back into their research groups (Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah) and went over the important parts they highlighted. They then used time to practice what information they wanted to share with the class. Once this was complete each group presented their holiday to the class.

Day 58

Inquiry into Language 

Today students wrote the last page of their report cards. Students wrote two things they learned this term, something(s) they had fun doing, and something they want to improve on next term.


Math
Today students worked on subtraction word problems and finding the missing numbers in a given set of addition and subtraction facts.

Today students got back into 3 groups and began to learn about 3 holidays Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah. They read a loud a fact sheet for each one and highlighted the important parts of each holiday.

Day 57

Inquiry into Language 

Today as a class we brainstormed what the learner profile thinker mean.  Students then wrote what they thought the definition of thinker was, ways they are going to try to be a thinker and drew a picture of it.




Today students worked on addition and subtraction facts for a given set of numbers.

Day 56

Inquiry into Language 
Today students worked in their spelling work out books to complete review words.

When completed students then finished up their maps from last week.


Math
Students worked on subtraction strategies such as count up and count back. They then completed subtraction questions to answer riddles.

Agenda 
  • Spelling It is here again . . . review week. Students are required to look over their last few weeks of spelling list words and pick 5. They will be writing these 5 words in a detailed paragraph during class time. Students can pick the 5 words at home and discuss what they can write about BUT are not to come with paragraphs already written.

Students picked 3 pieces of work from this unit that they thought were

2. Something they worked their hardest on
3. Something they need to improve on
