Today students completed their spelling workout book
Math
We talked about balloons and ways we could blow them up without our mouths as that makes us tired.
We then learned about mixing baking soda and vinegar and how that can cause a reaction (like a fizzy explosion)
Then we decided maybe this explosion/reaction could help us blow up a balloon. Next we had to decide how much baking soda will make the biggest balloon. We looked at several measuring cups before deciding on 1/4,1/3,/1/2 cups.
We hypothesized that 1/3 of a cup will make the biggest balloon.
Next we made a list of the materials needed to complete our experiment.
Then we did our experiment . . .it was so much fun!
Lastly we measured up and found out we were wrong! the smallest cup actually made the biggest balloon!
Tomorrow we will test again to be sure!

Math
Today the students continued their Geometry unit about transformational geometry. Today we learned Reflections/Flips
We learned a figure and its image face opposite ways during a flip. We also learned about horizontal and vertical reflection lines. Students then completed some exercises in their math workbooks to review these new learned concepts.

We got a bit of bad news in regards to our science fair experiment. It went in a different direction then we expected and it did not end of meeting the school requirements for submission. We learned that sometimes things do not always work out and its okay to fail and re-start. Students were not upset or disappointed but instead eager to try something else.We talked about balloons and ways we could blow them up without our mouths as that makes us tired.
