Inquiry into Citizenship
Yesterday students were told (first they were told this was make believe) that a flood was coming! Their mom and dads have given them one empty suitcase. They have 30 mins to pack their NEEDS to take with them. They open their suitcase but there is a compartment in there that they cannot pack anything into it. Students finished up this part of the activity.

Students were then told their parents re-entered the room and they had 5 extra minutes where they could pack a few wants into that empty compartment. While I counted down students frantically tried to draw all the wants they thought they just couldn't leave behind.

Afterwards we did a gallery walk looking at each other's drawings. We reflected by making note of things we forgot and things we thought were good ideas.
