We read the second chapter of our novel study
Once the chapter was read we worked as a class how to properly answer the questions in sentence form. As a class we wrote each questions template and students were responsible for filling in the information.
Inquiry into Cultures
Students continued to learn about Chinese New Year, today they created their own Chinese lantern. They were give 5 pattern rows and they had to chose one pattern from each row to decorate the corresponding section of their lantern.

2. words that tell us to add or subtract
We then used those circled items to solve the word problem given. Students were reminded they needed to use 2 of the following pictures, numbers or words when solving.

We kindly ask that your child brings in an artifact from their culture to sketch. This artifact should be able to comfortably fit on your child’s desk.
Artifacts can include but are not limited to the following:
- Mask
- Pottery
- Dolls/Figurines
- Coin
- Religious artifact (eg. icon)

Please bring your artifact by Tuesday, January 14th.
Artifacts will be returned at the end of this unit in January.
