Day 61

Our preparation for the Christmas concert is underway!!!!

Our outfit for the concert
  • Christmas Jammies (or nightgown)
  • Scarf/Gloves/Hat etc.

Calendar- the special helpers put up the date, counts down to 100 days of school, and tells us what the weather is like today.

UOI with language focus-
Today we wrote the pre- assessment for our Ontario writing assessment for term 2. Students had to brainstorm what they would do on a snow day and then write a journal re-tell that explained what they would do on a snow day. For the next few months we will be working on journal writing (opening, middle sentences and closing) by re-telling all different scenarios.

Music

Agenda -
  • cursive homework page
  • Practice Christmas song and actions
  • spelling sentences to be completed in cursive
Gym - visit: http://mrhpypphysed.blogspot.ca

Math -
Today we continued our new unit about addition and subtraction by creating our own subtraction stories using pictures, numbers and words.

UOI
Today we began to learn about organizing our writing. First we read the story Goldilocks and the three bears. Students were told they had a very important decision to make. They would have to decide if Goldilocks will be grounded for her actions. We read the story and made a list of what Goldilocks did wrong. We then re-read the story and made a list of feelings baby bear might have felt. We then read the story again and made a list of reasons (words from the story) that would tell us why Goldilocks did what she did. Tomorrow we will continue our Inquiry into our decision. Parents please take the time tonight to discuss with your child what their thoughts are on why or why not Goldilocks should be grounded!

It's Beginning to Look
a Lot Like Christmas
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev'rywhere you go;
Take a look in the five-and-ten, glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes aglow.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas,
Toys in ev'ry store,
But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be
On your own front door.

A pair of hopalong boots and a pistol that shoots
Is the wish of Barney and Ben;
Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk
Is the hope of Janice and Jen;
And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev'rywhere you go;
There's a tree in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as well,
The sturdy kind that doesn't mind the snow.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas;
Soon the bells will start,
And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas;
Soon the bells will start,
And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart.

Christmas, Christmas, Christmas, Christmas
