Today we completed Chapter 2 of our novel study Horrible Harry and the Holidaze. Students listened to the Chapter explaining Three King's Day.
We are concerned about Harry and we wanted to get to the bottom of why he is acting in such a "daze." We decided to brainstorm what we know about Harry and the book so far and we inferred that Harry is in a daze because he hasn't been a good boy this year and may not get presents for the holidays.
We then went on to answer the chapter comprehension questions
Those who finished answering the questions early worked on a word search related to key words from our novel study
Inquiry into Addition and Subtraction
Today students continued to work on 3 digit subtraction using the strategy of base ten blocks.
Step 1 = make your first number
Step 2 = take away your second number
*reminder start at the ones, do you have enough? No then trade in a ten for ten ones and then take away, yes then take away and move on to tens, do you have enough tens? No then trade in a hundred for ten tens then take away, yes then take away and move on to hundreds
Step 3 = write your answer

Inquiry into Cultures
Today we read Chapter 3 of our Novel study as we will not be able to do this Thursday morning as originally planned due to a Jump Rope assembly. We read the chapter and followed by answering the comprehension questions.
Those that completed early were able to work on a Chinese New Year word search using our new learned vocabulary from this holiday.
